TSADKA / WILLIAMSON

FIRST ANNUAL BOSS WITCH COMMISSION:
A NEW WORK BY MA’AYAN TSADKA AND DANI WILLIAMSON

The Boss Witch Annual Commission is part of our effort to support the creation of multimedia work that deeply engages with place and ritual to examine and reimagine relationships among humans and the natural world.

For our first commission, composer Ma’ayan Tsadka and video artist Dani Williamson will create an immersive multimedia installation which explores some of the unique elements in the landscape of Israel. Tsadka and Williamson previously collaborated on KinoEar soundfilms, and Tsadka’s Sonic Botany: Ra’ash Adama (Earthnoise) for Issue Project Room’s Women’s Work series.

Independently, Tsadka’s work seeks to uncover and amplify the musical patterns and acoustic behavior inherent in organic material sounded in specific environments. Her work is rooted in place and a ritualistic repetition akin to the iterative nature of a science experiment, yet it also  incorporates a dimension of imaginary and speculative sonic worlds, on the line between crypto-zoology, crypto-botany and futuristic folklore.

Williamson creates digital and celluloid experimental works that explore the tensions between virtual and physical space and how those places are experienced by others. To that end Williamson employs experimental editing techniques to blur the boundaries between digital and physical borders towards a simultaneous existence. Her work is driven by community and the ways identity, environment, and creation shape spaces and the people who inhabit them.
